Huskies and Border Cats Split Double-Header |

The Huskies and Border Cats played two games on Wednesday night, resuming Tuesday's postponed game in the second inning. Anders Engberg (UMD) took over pitching duties after Chris Jensen's (San Diego) two inning shutout was interrupted by rain. Engberg was solid until the 5th, when Thunder Bay got back to back RBI doubles from Tanner Nivins and Ken Battison to give them a 2-0 lead. Trailing 3-0 in the 7th, the Huskies scored four runs, including three unearned, to take the lead. However, Thunder Bay answered in the 8th, scoring 6 runs off a cluster of walks and singles to give them a 9-4 lead. The Huskies couldn't claw back into the game against Will Krasne, who pitched 2.1 innings to earn his first win of the year.
In the second game, RBI doubles by Zeke DeVoss (Miami), Jo Jo Sharrar, and Jeff Reynolds (Harvard), who had one in each of the first two innings, put the Border Cats in an early 4-0 hole. Reynolds then collected his 3rd hit and 3rd RBI of the night in the 4th when he singled home Tyler Erickson (UMD) to extend the Huskies lead to 5-1. Five runs would prove to be plenty for Huskies' starter Steven Ewing, who went 5 innings giving up 1 unearned run while striking out 7. Jason Whalen (Hillsborough CC) collected his league leading 10th save of the year in a perfect ninth to preserve the win for the Huskies. With the split, the Huskies stayed within two games of first place St. Cloud and Willmar to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Huskies will travel to Mankato Thursday, for a crucial two game series with the last place Moondogs.
