Huskies Defeat the Waterloo Bucks 5-3

6/14/13

The Huskies are clicking at the right time, defeating the former division leader in Waterloo 5-3 Friday night. They now move to (10-7) on the season. The Huskies are one game back behind the Willmar Stingers for a share of the division lead.

Clay Chapman (0-2) got the start for the Huskies. He allowed three runs on four hits, however he didn’t allow an earned run, meaning errors attributed to the runs he gave up.

The offense came alive when the Huskies strung some base hits together in the top of the 7th inning. They ended the inning scoring two runs to tie the game at 3-3.

They came back strong again in the top of 8th when OF Keith Curcio singled home fellow outfielder Brad Wilson to take the lead 4-3. Later on in the top of the 9th, 3B Trey Vavra homered to give the Huskies some insurance runs, but they didn’t need it. The final score ended 5-3 in the Huskies favor.

Reliever John Meyer (2-0) got the win in relief after pitching 1 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. Chris Cervantes came in the 9th and got his second save of the season.

Huskies Get Offense Back On Track, Fend Off Blue Anchors 15-9

6/13/13

Huskies Defeat the Blue Anchors 15-9

The Huskies finally got the offense to click Thursday night in Alexandria while totaling their highest scoring output of the season at 15 runs. The Huskies move to (9-7) on the year and third place in the division.

Huskies ace Jake Heissler struggled on the mound for the first time this season, however the bats were able to pick up the slack this time. Heissler went 4 1/3 innings while giving up six runs on ten hits in a no decision. Huskies 3B Trey Vavra had four RBI’s and 2B Jered Meek blasted his first home run as a Huskie. With the exception of OF Brad Wilson, every Huskie starter got at least one hit in the ball game.

Jack Moffit (1-0) relieved Heissler and got the win in relief. He went 3 2/3 innings while giving up two runs to give himself his first victory as a Huskie.

The Huskies now travel to Waterloo (10-5) to face the first place Bucks.  They look to gain some ground in the standings seeing as they are just 1.5 games back for the lead.

Winning Pitcher: Jack Moffit (1-0)

Losing Pitcher: Andy Johnson (0-2)
