The Huskies' offense has been on fire over the last month. Since July 7th, the Huskies have scored over 9 runs per game, putting up numbers that are usually reserved for football box scores. Friday night was no exception, as the Huskies romped the River Bats 14-6 to split the two game series. Cody Asche (Nebraska) has certainly played a big part in the thriving offense over the past month. Coming into tonights game, he led the Northwoods league in HR's (7) and RBI (37). He added to his totals tonight, collecting five RBI on three hits. Meanwhile, Zeke Devoss (Miami) has been a catalyst for the Huskies out of the leadoff spot, using his speed and knack for getting on base to set the table for the middle of the lineup. On Friday, he scored each time he reached, including the first inning when he scored on an RBI single by Asche. The Huskies tallied two more runs in the second thanks to an RBI single by Tyler Erickson (UMD) and an RBI groundout by Robbie Collier (University of North Florida). Leading 3-0 in the third, Mark Threlkeld (Louisianna Tech University) drilled his 6th HR of the season, and Collier added an RBI double to extend the Huskies lead to 6-0. In the fifth, Collier collected his third RBI of the game when his triple scored shortstop Barrett Serrato (Purdue). Leading 9-3 in the 7th, Collier, Lyttle, Asche, and Threlkeld each hit doubles to score 5 more runs, putting the game out of reach. Chris Jensen (San Diego) took a no-hitter into the 6th, but it was broken up with a single by St. Cloud's Jon Schultz. Jensen was dominant, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits while striking out 8.
The Huskies racked up 16 hits tonight, as 8 of the 9 starters came away with at least 1 hit. Lyttle, Threlkeld, and Joseph Sharrar (Utah) had two hits apiece, while Asche and Collier finished with three. With the win, the Huskies record now sits at 21-17 overall (4-3 in the second half). Tommy Coyle and Devon Rodriguez each collected two hits for the River Bats, who fall to 24-19 (4-4) with the loss.
The Huskies continue their homestand tomorrow, as they welcome the resurgent Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers, who are 6-2 in the second half, for a two game series. Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:05. |

The Huskies kicked off an eight game homestand with the first game of a two game set against the St. Cloud River Bats. It was a tough night for Huskies starter Josh Renfro (State College of Florida), who surrendered three runs in the first, three in the second, and three in the fourth. Cody Asche (Nebraska) did his part to keep the Huskies in the game. After a Tyler Erickson (UMD) single, Asche ripped his second triple of the year to score Erickson. Asche then scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 3-2. In the top of the second, however, the River Bats added three more runs thanks to four singles to extend their lead to four. In the bottom of the third, the Huskies were poised to have a big inning after three straight singles to start the inning. With men on first and third, River Bats' starter Matt Lewis (St. Scholastica) induced a double play to limit the Huskies to two runs. Whenever the Huskies closed the gap, the River Bats' offense stepped on the gas pedal. They added three more runs in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to 9-4. Anders Engberg (UMD) entered the game in the 4th and pitched five solid innings in relief, limiting the River Bats to one additional run. The Huskies had the bases loaded again in the 6th for Phillip Menou (Louisianna Tech University), who came through with a 2 RBI single. However, that was as close as the Huskies would get, as River Bats' reliever Andy Lines (UC Irvine) threw three innings of shutout ball for his first save of the year.
Josh Renfro took his third loss of the season for the Huskies, going 3.2 innings allowing 9 runs (7 earned) on 9 hits. Matt Chaffee (University of Arizona) got the win for the River Bats in relief. He tossed 3 innings, getting 7 of his 9 outs by strikeout. Meanwhile, Cody Asche continued his great July, going 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. His RBI triple in the first gave him his Northwoods league leading 38th RBI of the year. The two teams will meet again tomorrow night for the final game of the series. Game time is set for 7:05. |

Asche Collects 6 RBI in Huskies' Victory |

It was a tough night to be a pitcher in Rochester. The Huskies won an offensive show that saw 26 hits, 20 runs and 4 HR's. Meanwhile, someone forgot to tell Cody Asche (Nebraska) that the HR Derby was taking place in Anaheim, CA. Asche had a monster day at the dish, going 5-6 with 6 RBI and not one, but two HR's. His huge game catapulted him to the top of the Northwoods league in both HR's (7) and RBI's (37).
Coming off a devastating ninth inning loss on Sunday to the Beetles, the Huskies found themselves down early once again. Down 5-1 after the 3rd inning, the Huskies rallied to score 6 in the top of the 4th. A sacrifice fly by Jeff Reynolds (Harvard), and a double by Zeke DeVoss (Miami), cut the lead to 5-4. Barrett Serrato (Purdue) then walked to put men on 1st and 2nd for Asche, who unloaded with his first HR of the night to give the Huskies a 7-5 lead. After the Huskies added another run in the 7th, the Honkers stormed back with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to give them a 9-8 lead. Down to their last out in the 9th, Asche again walked to the plate with men on first and second. Asche crushed the 0-1 pitch over the wall to give him 6 RBI on the night, and the Huskies a 2 run lead. Ben Hughes (St. Olaf), who has been solid all season for the Huskies with a 1.69 ERA, picked up his first save of the season, pitching a perfect 9th inning. Frank DeJulio went 6 innings allowing 4 earned runs for the Huskies, picking up a no decision. Jacob Bax got his first win as a member of the Huskies. Reliever Arik Sikula took the loss for the Honkers. It was a refreshing spark of offense for the Huskies, as all but one starter had a hit. Along with Asche, DeVoss had a nice day at the plate, as he went 3-6 with 3 RBI and hit his first HR of the season. The two teams meet again tomorrow afternoon in Rochester. The first pitch is set for 1:05. |

The Huskies and Honkers met again on Tuesday, a day after an offensive outburst that saw 20 runs scored. The Huskies bats stayed hot again, as they scored early and often en route to a 9-5 win in Rochester. Mark Threlkeld (Louisianna Tech University) got the Huskies on the board in the first with his 26th RBI of the year. In the third, the Huskies tacked on three more runs with RBI singles by Austin Gaines (Florida Gulf Coast) and Pete Cappetta (Illinois) to take a 4-0 lead. In the fifth inning, the Huskies added 4 more runs thanks to a 2 run HR by Phillip Menou (Louisianna Tech University) and an RBI single by Tyler Erickson (UMD) that plated two more Huskies. That was all starting pitcher Steven Ewing would need, as he went 6 strong innings allowing two runs while striking out five. The Honkers made it a game, getting two runs in the 6th, one in the 8th, and 2 in the 9th, but Kyle Roliard (Louisianna Tech University) closed it out in the ninth, getting one out for his first save of the year.
Gaines and Menou each hit homeruns, while Cappetta and Joseph Sharrar (Utah) collected 2 hits a piece for the Huskies, who have scored 20 runs in their past two games (both victories). The Huskies will try for the sweep tomorrow night at 7:05 at Mayo Field. |

Those who came out to Wade Stadium on Sunday night saw quite the show. Unfortunately for the Huskies, it was the Beetles coming away with the thrilling 7-6 victory. The Beetles opened the game scoring a run in each of the first two innings off of Huskies starter Robbie Collier (University of North Florida). He settled down from there, however, going 6 strong innings. Down 2-0, the Huskies rallied with back to back three run innings in the 4th and 5th. With two men on in the 4th, Huskies LF Scott Sommerfeld (University of Missouri) hit a triple, and then scored on an error to give the Huskies a 3-2 lead. In the 5th, Cody Asche (Nebraska) came through with one of his two hits, plating two Huskies with a double. The Huskies took the three run lead into the ninth, but the Beetles rallied to score four runs, three with two outs, off Huskies closer Jason Whalen (Hillsborough Community College). Whalen came into the game having allowed only 1 run in 17 1/3 innings, but the Beetles had him solved. Marcus Semien came around to score on a Time Roberson double to cut the lead to 6-3. Whalen then got Brandon Garcia to ground out for the second out of the inning, but the Beetles did not quit. With Roberson on third, the Beetles got three consecutive hits, including the go ahead RBI double RF Derek Mattea to take a 7-6 lead. The Huskies could not rally as Kolby Wood came in and retired the side, picking up his first win of the season. Collier threw his second consecutive quality start for the Huskies.
