The Duluth Huskies fell to the Brainerd Lakes Lunkers 2-1 on a beautiful 4th of July evening at Wade Stadium. Pitching was the theme of the night, as the two starters combined to go 13 innings, allowing only 2 runs. The Lunkers took the early lead in the 3rd inning thanks to an RBI double by RF Vince Bruno (who went 3-5). Third baseman Tommy Reyes followed up with an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0. That was all Brainerd starter Nick Anderson (St. Cloud State) would need. He was dominant, allowing no runs on 3 hits while striking out 5. The Huskies were able to make it interesting in the 8th, when Cody Asche picked up his 22nd RBI of the year to cut the deficit to 1 run. However, they couldn't tie it up against Lunkers closer Ray Black (Pittsburgh) who pitched a perfect 9th for the save.
Huskies starter Chris Jensen (San Diego) was solid, but took the loss going 5 innings and allowing 2 runs.
