The Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers were in town for the second game of a two game series on Sunday evening. After shutting out the Lunkers 9-0 Saturday night, the Huskies were looking for their first sweep since July 8th. Mark Threlkeld (Louisianna Tech University) got them off to a good start in the first, blasting his 7th HR of the year to put the Huskies up 2-0. Tied at 3 in the bottom of the fourth, the Huskies got two walks and doubles from Threlkeld, Casey Lyttle (Kansas), and Austin Gaines (Florida Gulf Coast) to extend their lead to 7-3. The lead would not last long, however, as the Lunkers put together a 6 run 5th to put them back up by two runs. CF Vince Bruno had a bases clearing triple, and Chadd Krist added a single that scored two more Lunkers to give them a 9-7 lead. The Huskies cut the lead to 9-8 in the 8th when Zeke Devoss (Miami) tagged up and scored on a sacrifice fly. That was as close as they would come, as the Lunkers added another run in the top of the 9th, and held on for the 10-8 victory.
After getting great pitching performances the last two games, Frank De Jiulio (Daytona State College) and Connor Hulse (Harvard) struggled, allowing 9 runs in 4.2 innings between the two. Lunkers starter Patrick Nathanson also had a rough outing, but the Lunkers' bullpen was able to hold the Huskies to 1 run over the final 5 innings. Mark Threlkeld had a big night for the Huskies, going 4-4 with a HR and 3 RBI. The Huskies will be off until Thursday due to the All-Star Break.
